la jolla, sb2013

On day five of our Spring Break trip to San Diego, we went to La Jolla shores for the boys to play at the beach.  I have soooo many memories of this beach and was overjoyed that my boys knew just what to do on their first trip to the ocean.  After a few minutes, they were pros!  Digging and building in the sand, hunting for sand crabs, jumping waves, swimming in the water (even though it was a bit chilly and overcast), eating sandy snacks, chasing seagulls. They knew just what to do and loved it.

At one point, Ben came running up to me from the water, all wet (even his hair), with a big grin and shouted, "Mom, that wave just grabbed me and pulled me down into the ocean!"  We then proceeded to have a conversation about how powerful the waves can be and how to stay close enough to shore to avoid the waves that are too strong for a 6-year-old.  I love that little guy :)  And I totally remember the waves "pulling me down into the ocean."

We stayed and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grills in the grass, then roasted marshmallows for s'mores.  They also learned the art of guarding food from the very confident seagulls.  We lost one hamburger to them and were sure to keep a man on food guard duty at all times after that.

legoland, sb2013

We spent day three of our Spring Break trip to SD at Legoland!  The boys ABSOLUTELY loved it!  I think we will definitely plan to go again (next time with Wade too).  The rides are made for kids their age and everything was perfect.  It was great weather, few to no lines for all the rides and I had my dad and brother, Todd there to help and go on rides with the boys.  It was a great day.

Ready to start our day at Legoland with Uncle Todd (and my Dad, Grandpa Danny taking the photo).
Jack is ready for a ride.

Ben is ready for a ride.
In line for their first roller coaster ride ever!  FYI- they were a bit shocked during the ride, but all said they liked it when it was over.

san diego zoo, sb2013

I took the boys to San Deigo over Spring Break this year.  Wade stayed home and worked (boring), but we still managed to have some fun even without dad.  We stayed with my dad (Grandpa Danny) in Santee and spent the first two days relaxing and going to church (Sat. & Sunday).  My dad and I also went on a daddy-daughter date to the movies with my cousins and their spouses to see the movie OZ. On Monday, we braved the HUGE San Diego Zoo all day and still didn't see everything.  My cousin Jessa and her kids came along too! I have fond memories of the drive to the zoo and the zoo itself from when I went to the San Diego Zoo as a very young child.  I was looking forward to sharing it with my own kids.

Here we go...

Ice cream cones taste so much better at the zoo (is it because they are 5 times the price?).

Ben got loose inside the elephants enclosure. ;)

I think I should start  a running joke of taking a photo of my boys "wrastlin'" everywhere we go.  This is their natural state after all.
